Watermark Hits The Streets!
On Dec. 12, a very stormy Friday, we woke up with even more excitement than usual about going to work: the first issue of Watermark was scheduled to hit the streets! Local printers Pioneer Printing advised that it would be ready to distribute by noon, so we raced down there at 12:05 p.m. to pick it up, freezing temperatures and impending snow be damned. Watermark is the ONLY local scene rag in Newport – the focus is on events, commentary, and local artist profiles – and we couldn’t wait to get it out there.
Grins splitting our faces, we huddled around warming our hands on the first copies and breathing in the smell of ink. Then we looked out the window at the 45-degree-angle slant in the rain, and decided we’d better take copies around to our close neighbors first. We trotted down to Champagne Patio, and then met Bill at Sea Towne Books to drop off some more copies.
We gritted our teeth and headed out to the storm-soaked Nye Beach area, dropping off first editions at Cafe Stephanie, Nana’s Irish Pub & Kitchen, Nye Beach Books, the Sandbar & Grill, Cafe Mundo, and Panini Bakery. Then it was time to head over to Local Ocean Seafoods, Port Dock 1, Canyon Way Bookstore and Restaurant, and the Rogue Ales Public House on Newport’s Bayfront. It’s free, it’s fun and it’s a great way to find out what’s happening around Newport.
Of course we immediately started getting positive comments, so if you’re planning to put on an event, or you have a story idea, please send us an email so we can get it into the next issue, scheduled out on Jan. 9.
