Our Local Technology Alliance
Nairne, Rachel and I recently began attending meetings of the Lincoln County Technology Solutions Alliance, an organization designed to bring together technology enthusiasts from the central Oregon coast. Founded at the end of 2007 by John Lavrakas of Advanced Research Corporation, Ron Spisso and a group of business professionals, the alliance has an intriguing role to play on the Oregon coast, which is a bit more “technologically challenged” than larger urban areas. I was recently asked to join the LCTSA Steering Committee, an invitation that I enthusiastically accepted.
For me, the exciting part about the Lincoln County Technology Solutions Alliance is the potential that it brings. At a recent seminar about the basics of search engine optimization, put on in conjunction with the Oregon Coast Community College Small Business Development Center, we were surprised at how many business owners showed up and how attentive they were. Rachel and I commented frequently about how often we noticed people picking up their pencils to take notes, or how many suggestions of “we should do that” and “that’s a great idea” we heard. It was pretty clear to me that there is a demand for education in the Newport area. After all, every business owner interacts with technology in some way on a daily basis, and it can be confusing.
As a firm believer that nearly everything is too complicated for no apparent reason, I look forward to helping to educate people that are interested in technology, and to participate in helping to steer the direction of the Lincoln County Technology Solutions Alliance. Hopefully we will be able to help people to understand the wealth of new tools out there that can help them to succeed in business, as well as to help them learn to use them effectively and efficiently.
